چکیده

Image restoration is a significant process commonly applied in many research fields. In particular, image deconvolution algorithms play a very important role in the research methodology in astrophysics, where recorded images are frequently submitted to deconvolution processes. In this paper, we introduce a novel image deconvolution algorithm that is competitive in terms of the restored image quality when compared to classical approaches. We present parallelizations of this algorithm to make it competitive in terms of processing speeds as well. We also present the image deconvolution web portal (IDEWEP) that, using web services technologies, primarily aims to make this general parallel deconvolution method accessible through a web interface. Both the quality of the restored images and running times of the sequential and parallel version have been successfully tested in several sequential and parallel architectures. The IDEWEP portal greatly eases the access and use of the parallel algorithm in high performance architectures. As a contribution to the scientific community, open source sequential and parallel codes are provided and can be freely downloaded from our web portal. r 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Collaborative Astronomical Image Mosaics

This chapter describes how astronomical imaging survey data have become a vital part of modern astronomy, how these data are archived and then served to the astronomical community through on-line data access portals. The Virtual Observatory, now under development, aims to make all these data accessible through a uniform set of interfaces. This chapter also describes the scientific need for one ...

A public parallel method for astronomical image restoration ⋆

Any recorded image is blurred whenever the instrument used to obtain it has a finite resolving power. For example, the image of a point source seen through a telescope has an angular size which is inversely proportional to the diameter of the primary mirror of the telescope. If the instrument is ground-based, the image is additionally degraded by the turbulent motions in the earth’s atmosphere....

Adaptive suppression of RFI and its effect on radio-astronomical image formation

Radio-astronomical observations are increasingly contaminated by interference, and suppression techniques become essential. A powerful candidate for interference mitigation is adaptive spatial filtering. We study the effect of spatial filtering techniques on radio astronomical imaging. Current deconvolution procedures such as CLEAN are shown to be unsuitable to spatially filtered data, and the ...

Deconvolution of Adaptive Optics Image Data

Adaptive optics compensation of turbulence effects in image data is seldom perfect. To achieve diffraction-limited resolution, especially with astronomical systems designed to guide on very dim natural objects, post-detection processing (deconvolution) must be accomplished. I discuss the history of deconvolution schemes in astronomical imaging, the limits imposed by data noise, and details of s...

Image flip CAPTCHA

The massive and automated access to Web resources through robots has made it essential for Web service providers to make some conclusion about whether the "user" is a human or a robot. A Human Interaction Proof (HIP) like Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart (CAPTCHA) offers a way to make such a distinction. CAPTCHA is a reverse Turing test used by Web serv...
